this week has been pretty good. it feels great to get back to the gym :)
i found a perfect training program on runnersworld.com called FIRST half marathon training program. it's 10 weeks long, which is exactly how long i have, and i think it looks pretty do-able. the only thing i'm worried about is my knee acting up, but i'm keeping my fingers crossed that i won't have to stop running again.
so this is what my first week looked like:
Monday: strength training + moderate cardio
Tuesday: tempo run (4.5 miles)
Wednesday: strength training + moderate cardio
Thursday: speed work (4 400-meters)
Friday: rest day
Saturday: strength training + easy outdoor run
Sunday (tomorrow): long run (6 miles)
for the next 10 weeks, i'll be running 3x a week; one tempo run, one day for speedwork, and one long run. add a few days for strength training and maybe a maintenance run outdoors run, and that's basically the FIRST program.
as far as eating this week, i've done pretty well. i try to eat every 3 hours or so, but it's difficult if i'm at school for a while. i'm going to have to plan meals/snacks and bring them along. should be no biggie, just takes a little extra effort.
considering it's week 1, i'm pretty happy :)
SLEEP, however, is one area in which i definitely need to improve. no more of this 4 hour a night deal. 6-8 is my goal...wish me luck with that!
for week 2, i want to get more sleep, plan my meals ahead of time, and do my workouts with more enthusiasm and energy.
until next time, live healthy & happy!

Setting Goals
Isn't it so gratifying when you set a goal for yourself and finally accomplish it? I think so :)
Today, I set a new goal. This summer, on May 17, I am going to run my first half marathon - The Marine Corps Historic Half - in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Lately, I haven't been keeping up with the greatest eating habits/workout schedule, but no excuses!
I am going to make a training/nutrition plan tomorrow and will begin on Monday. I will be updating on my workout routines, daily meals, and my mood and overall health (which has been quite unfortunately sluggish lately).
Not only do I want to run this half marathon, but I also want to be my very happiest and healthiest. Wish me luck!
